What We Do
Happy Kids Center began as a safe space for children in Bhelukel. Today, it has grown into a community-based organization working to break cycles of child labor, child marriage, and poverty in Bhaktapur.
About Us
Happy Kids Center, is a community-based organization in Bhaktapur, Nepal working to break cycles of child labor, child marriage, and poverty. Our approach is holistic, supporting the whole child through safe spaces, education, health, and community-based programs. We recognize that when one of these areas falls short, it affects everything else, which is why our work is designed to support children in a consistent and connected way.
We support children from some of the most marginalized communities in Bhaktapur, including the Dyola community and families who have migrated from rural Nepal and Northern India. Many of these children grow up on the margins of society, where access to education is limited and child labor is common, shaping their lives from an early age.

Before meeting the HKC team, I already knew many of the children. I met them on the street where they asked me for money and rice for their families.
On my second visit to Nepal, I arrived expecting to find the children either searching for recyclables in the street bins or begging. I walked and walked all day, looking for them. They were nowhere to be found. Finally, I went down to the center at 4 p.m. and found them, in their new uniforms, returning from school.
The children had finished begging. They were clean, healthy, happy, and confident. That's when I realized the impact of HKC and how our programs had changed their lives.
